The Trinity Academy coed 7-8 grade, boys’ 4-6 grade, and girls’ 4-6 grade cross country teams won state championships at the 27th Annual Lutheran School State Cross Country Meet on Saturday, October 13, 2018, in Mayer, MN.

Charlie Wendell won the boys’ 7-8 grade 3000m race to become state champion with a time of 12:02. The other team members contributing to the team trophy win were Elliot Vargas (3rd), Jack Solheid (4th), Brecken Meyer, (13th), Lauren McLean (14th), Ayla Larsen (21st), Matthias Riddle (24th), Ben Stigler (27th) and Caleb Schock (36th).

Julianne Kurth won the girls’ 3-6 grade 1500m race to become state champion with a time of 6:13. Other girl runners included Jenna Kurth (4th), Nora Frederickson (12th), Gabby Schock (13th), Hayley Finstad (15th), and Eliana Vargas (18th).

In the boys’ 3-6 grade 1500m race, Ethan Williamson was fourth overall with a time of 6:05. Other runners for the Warriors included Joe Stigler (5th), Emmit Miller (8th), Gideon Heisler (10th), Isaiah Bocklund (13th), Reidar Bednar (21st), and Caleb Scharber (34th).

“Our runners worked very hard this year,” coach Alison Kurth said. “We had many medalists, top ten finishers, and personal bests today, so it was very exciting to see our hard work pay off.”

“This is our 7th season of cross country at Trinity Academy and this is the first time we have won all three state team championships. To have our teams do so well individually and collectively is very rewarding,” noted coach Darcy Vargas. “We are excited to compete in nationals on Saturday in Mequon, WI.”
