The Trinity Academy boys’ 7-8 grade and 4-6 grade cross country teams won both state championships at the 25th Annual Lutheran School State Cross Country Meet on Saturday, October 15, 2016, in Mayer, MN.

Ethan Vargas won the boys’ 7-8 grade 3000m race to become state champion with a time of 10:17.  The other team members contributing to the team trophy win were Steven Asmus (2nd), Micah Larsen (3rd), Braden Meyer (4th), Ben Land (5th), and Peter Verdoorn.

In the boys’ 4-6 grade 1500m race, Charlie Wendell was state champion with a winning time of 5:36.  Maddox Malchow finished second overall.  Other runners for the Warriors included Emmitt Miller, Ben Raymond, Elliot Vargas, Sam Wendell, Brecken Meyer, and Evan Gibson.

In the girls’ 4-6 grade race, Lauren McLean finished second overall.  Other girl runners included Johanna Schulte, Julianne Kurth, Jenna Kurth, and Ayla Larsen.

In the girls’ 7-8 grade race, Meg Kretschmer finished third overall and Stella Scharber was fifth in her grade division.

“Our runners worked very hard this year,” coach Curt Weese said. “We had many medalists, top ten finishers, and personal bests today, so it was very exciting to see our hard work pay off.”

“To have our teams do so well individually and collectively is very rewarding,” noted coach Darcy Vargas.  “We are excited to compete in nationals next Saturday in Mequon, WI.”
